Horner gives news on budget cap talks with FIA: 'That's where we are now'

All eyes are on Red Bull Racing and the budget cap this weekend. The team is talking to the FIA about the punishment that will follow for exceeding the cap in 2021. Christian Horner stresses that they are currently working hard with the FIA to reach a solution.

There are currently many rumours circulating in the paddock about Red Bull's infringement. The team itself believes that all rules have been followed, but the FIA announced after the Japan Grand Prix that the team has been found guilty of a small breach of less than five per cent.

The FIA reportedly submitted to Red Bull what penalties they hand out for exceeding the budget cap. One of the penalties would involve deduction of time in the wind tunnel. Team boss Horner stresses that talks are still ongoing with the FIA.

Horner hopes to have a solution soon

"The latest on that [budget cap] is that we are in a process with the FIA. We hope to get closure on that. At that point in time, all the facts will be laid on the table and we will be able to talk openly about the cap and why we feel our costs are fully in line. We are in a process and we are working with the FIA. They are doing their job, hopefully in the near future we will have a resolution," Horner says during the FIA press conference.

"It's a new process. A complicated set of regulations, 52 pages. We've been through the process, 2021 was the first year of the set of complicated financial regulations. They have varying interpretations from different accounting specialists. The findings of the FIA have been made public and we are in a voluntary process with the FIA. I hope we can conclude it in the near future, but that's where we currently are," ends the Briton.
