On the weekend when his teammate Max Verstappen could become F1 champion, Sergio Perez warns of the treacherous nature of the Suzuka circuit of the Japanese GP. The Mexican himself hopes to get on the podium this weekend.

Perez idolises sector one Suzuka

Indeed, if Verstappen wins the Japan GP and takes the fastest lap, he will become world champion. Perez, as a teammate with almost no chance of winning the title, will not want to get in between that, so he is targeting his first podium in Japan. Perez looks ahead and is all about sector one: "Suzaka is such a unique circuit, the track is super special, especially the first sector and it is certainly one of the best in the world."

Perez warns his fellow drivers: "You have to be really precise basically all the way to turn 11 to get a good lap, if you push too much or overhit it then you’re very compromised. The level of risk you have to be willing to take is very high, there is no runoff area so if you make a mistake things can go wrong very quickly. It’s a great combination to have in a circuit" Finally, Perez expresses his wish for next weekend: "Unfortunately, I have never been on the podium in Suzaka so it would be great to be there this Sunday. For me the best memories in Japan are of the fans, so I would love to be deliver for them and Honda this weekend."
