Horner not worried about new FIA directive: 'It has no consequence for us'

The new technical directive created by the FIA to combat porpoising is causing a stir in the Formula One paddock, as are the proposed changes for the 2023 season. Christian Horner warns against going too far in implementing rule changes in the middle of the season.

At Spa-Francorchamps, a new technical directive comes into force, intended to further curb the effects of porpoising. In addition, the FIA wants to implement a set of rule changes in 2023 with the same aim, but the majority of Formula One teams are not happy with that. "I think what we just need to be careful of is if we overshoot here and we don't have a big regulation change this late in the year," Horner said in conversation with Sky Sports.

Horner feels FIA shouldn't overreact

"It will be hugely costly for next year," the Red Bull team boss continued, stressing that the world should not be turned upside down because of the issues of "some teams". According to Horner, a compromise may be possible but it should not be a major rule change so late in the season.

Horner is not worried about the technical directive that is about to come into force. "It has no consequence for our team," he continued. What the Red Bull Racing boss is more concerned about is the changes that many teams will have to make for next year, and that because of a problem that is unlikely to exist by then.
