Hill on Ferrari: "Sainz has struck me more as the team leader"

Damon Hill has shone his light on the current problems at Ferrari at Sky Sports. In his speech he also stated that Carlos Sainz has shown more leadership qualities than Charles Leclerc in 2022. As a Ferrari driver, the one-time world champion would see it as a great challenge to solve the current problems.
"I'd love to be a driver at Ferrari. I don' expect to get a call. What a great team. The potential is there to fix problems. I would imagine myself as one of those troubleshooters who goes in and says right we can fix this. The potential is so great if you can just stop making mistakes and getting peoples heads in gear. And getting them to go in the right direction and work as a team. That challenge is appealing," says Hill.
F1-75 is a fast car and on the track its full potential seems to be unlocked, but driver error, strategic blunder or mistakes in the pit lane mean the mood is not great in Maranello right now. Everyone knows how many opportunities were missed in the first half of the season. It is now important to make sure the focus is on the coming months and not too much looking back.
Sainz naturally more team leader
The analyst at the British broadcasting company, thinks Sainz might be the driver who needs to step up now. "Carlos has struck me more as the team leader. He seems more familiar with the strategy, he seems to make decisions." Among other things, things need to change in terms of communication just before pit stops, as often now there is ambiguity and discussions arise. According to Hill, it is important that either the driver or the strategist determines the strategy to be followed.
Nico Rosberg and Norbert Haug already indicated that Leclerc's task to overtake Verstappen in the world championship is very big, but not impossible. Hill shares that view. "The potential is huge and if they can fix these problems, then they can be a threat. If they do it between now and the end of the season then it could be close finish in the championship."
