Marko comments: 'The proponents all have a Mercedes engine'

The FIA intervened in the middle of the Formula 1 season against porpoising, which particularly affected Mercedes. Additional rules have also been laid down for 2023, which should combat the problem even further. Helmut Marko, however, believes that these rules have been devised purely to help Mercedes and points out that they are far from fixed.

Not only the intervention in the middle of the season, but also the plans for 2023 are causing discussion. The majority of teams believe that everyone should solve their own problems and that a rule change from the FIA is not part of that. Marko points out a striking detail: only three teams voted for the new rule changes, and 'coincidentally' all of them are powered by Mercedes engines.

Many opponents of new porpoising rules

"The teams that voted in favour are McLaren, Aston Martin and Mercedes. Strangely enough, they are all teams with Mercedes engines. Is that a coincidence?", Marko wonders aloud at OE24.at. Those in favour are trying to push through the rule changes from a safety point of view, but the teams that voted against don't think that's a valid argument.

The Red Bull advisor therefore stresses that a decision is still a long way off. "There have to be valid arguments, just emphasising safety is not enough. Ferrari will not accept that either," said the Austrian.
