Romain Grosjean has still not made a test drive in the Mercedes car. However, the Frenchman says his busy schedule is getting in the way and that it is not down to the Mercedes team.

Following his heavy crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, Grosjean had to watch the last two races of the season from the sidelines. The Frenchman narrowly escaped a big fire when his car slammed into the crash barrier and broke in two. Grosjean suffered burns to his hands and could no longer compete.

Toto Wolff offered the then Haas driver a test drive in the Mercedes car to give him a dignified farewell to the sport. However, two years later this has still not happened.

Grosjean has busy schedule

On YouTube, Grosjean is asked why he hasn't driven the Mercedes yet. "It’s 100% my fault. I haven’t been able to give Mercedes some dates that I’m back in Europe. I’ve moved to the US in Miami. I moved in December 2021, and I got really busy. I was supposed to drive the Mercedes in 2020 at the French Grand Prix, and then after that for a test day at the Castellet. Due to Covid, the date got moved, and we had a race the same weekend."

The IndyCar driver scheduled a second date with the team, but due to logistical reasons, that test day could not take place either. "I saw Toto Wolff in Miami for the Grand Prix, and he told me the test was happening, and I don’t doubt it. Mercedes has been really good at contacting me all the time, but it’s my fault that I haven’t been able to find some time to get back to Europe."
