Pierre Gasly was the best driver of last weekend, according to the judges of the F1 Power Rankings. The 26-year-old driver finished fifth on the street circuit of Baku. It gave him a neat 9.0. With this, he keeps Max Verstappen just behind him. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc is still leading the rankings.

Poor qualifying Verstappen

Verstappen is assigned an 8.8 by the five-member team of experts. That it did not become a higher figure is mainly due to the course of Saturday. "Race winner Verstappen didn't qualify as well as his rivals, taking third on the grid, but kept his cool and seemed to take care of his Pirellis better than team mate Perez. Leclerc's retirement was the icing on the cake for the leading Dutchman, who then went on to cruise to victory in Baku."

Charles Leclerc and George Russell both receive an 8.6. Lewis Hamilton receives an 8.2, while the other AlphaTauri driver in the person of Yuki Tsunoda can chalk up an 8.0. The same goes for Sebastian Vettel. Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso must settle for a 7.8. The number ten in the list is rookie Guanyu Zhou with a 7.6.

Verstappen thus scored two tenths higher in Azerbaijan, but that is not enough to depose Charles Leclerc from the throne in the Power Rankings in the interim. Over eight races the Monegasque scored an average of 8.9. Verstappen follows close behind with an 8.8.
