Hulkenberg: You must be brave around Baku

Nico Hulkenberg says that drivers need bravery at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to get a good result but maintains that going too close to the edge can be catastrophic.

Baku is entering its third year as a Formula One circuit, and its second as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The German driver finished ninth on the coast of the Caspian Sea in 2016, although he was forced into retirement last year.

Hulkenberg comes into this weekend on the back of consecutive sixth placed finishes and enjoys the challenge of the Baku City Circuit.

“There are some walls waiting for you so it’s important to be quite brave, but not go over the limit,” said the former Williams, Force India and Sauber driver. “There are a lot of tight, 90-degree turns matched with flat-out kinks, which give you a buzz when you fly through.

“The castle complex of turns eight to ten is especially close with the wide cars. Monaco is spacious in comparison!”

Baku produced one of the more memorable races of recent times when Daniel Ricciardo won an action-packed race last year. We’re hoping for more of the same in 2018!
