Jan Lammers thinks Charles Leclerc should also look at himself after Ferrari 's strategic mistake during the Monaco Grand Prix. Teammate Carlos Sainz did make the right decision with his pit stop.

Home hero Leclerc had hoped to take his first victory on the Monte Carlo street circuit, but Ferrari's strategic blunder saw the Monegasque drop from P1 to P4. In the Formula 1 podcast from the NOS Lammers explains that in wet conditions a driver partly determines the strategy. The Dutch analyst believes that Leclerc could have made a better choice.

"You have to realize that of course a team decides the strategy. In these conditions, where you send a driver onto a half wet track with slicks or not, the last call is up to the driver. He can just say which tires he wants," he says.

Sainz made the right choice

Teammate Sainz opted to drive longer on his rain tires, so he eventually only had to make one pit stop for new slicks. Leclerc had to come in twice, as he opted for intermediates first.

"Carlos Sainz took the initiative and also had the guts by saying: we'll drive these rain tires and then we'll go to slicks. I think Leclerc needs to reach out more and say that Sainz' call was good to go straight to slicks. That's where the origin of the mistake is. Everything else after that is the consequences," Lammers said.
