Sebastian Vettel looked resigned after the second free practice session. The German already missed the first two Grands Prix of this season and dropped out in the first free practice of the Australian GP with an engine problem. Paul di Resta is worried about Vettel's attitude.

For Vettel, the 2022 F1 season has not gone as he had hoped. He missed the first two races due to a covid infection and now also had bad luck in the first free practice session in Melbourne. Due to the problems with the engine, he did not come into action during FP2 either and stood somewhat resigned in front of the Sky Sports camera.

Vettel's lack of motivation

''I was just looking at that interview thinking he's not excited, is he? I mean he just looks disinterested. I don't know that's the impression I get. I've known Seb for a long time, we were teammates in 2006. It's not the body language where you get the best out of him,'' Di Resta said at Sky. The Briton doesn't dare say whether Vettel will quit after this season, but does think Aston Martin needs to find a way to motivate the German.

Di Resta then puts the ball in the court of his colleague Martin Brundle. He has been following Formula 1 as an analyst for some time now and was also there when Vettel won his world titles. Are you seeing the same Seb now, Di Resta asks him. ''No, It's not. It's motivation. Motivation is a massive important thing. You're right I don't think it's really there. But if he gets the car, the motivation will come back,'' Brundle concludes.
