"It's very illogical to start in Austria and not Silverstone''

When will Formula 1 start again? It is the question that occupies many Formula 1 fans and that is also discussed during the podcast F1 aan Tafel of Grand Prix Radio, with Olav Mol, Jack Plooij and Tom Coronel.

Do not start in Austria

''I think it's illogical to start in Austria. I told you last time that you have to start in Silverstone now, because then only three teams have to travel. Now you would first go to Austria and then return to Silverstone'', says Mol during the podcast.
However, according to Plooij we will get clarity in the short term. ''I've spoken to someone who was able to report that the organisation will come up with the provisional calendar this week. The start of the calendar will then be announced in any case'', says Plooij, on which Coronel is also clear. Public is not a priority right now, those events now take precedence and have to be planned''.

Million contract

That sounds fun as a fan, of course, but is it achievable? After all, the organisers now have to organise a weekend with no income from ticket sales and thousands of people present on the grounds. However, according to Mol that is not important now and Formula 1 will do everything to arrange it.
''Formula 1 has a television contract running for 750 million, so if they don't start racing they will have to hand in that amount. That is not an option at all. So they will do everything they can to get started as soon as possible. Let's do it without an audience and then they will hand over part of the money to the organizers'', Mol concludes.
