Racing Point goes into the season with confidence: "This is our best car ever"

Racing Point appeared at the winter tests in Barcelona without high expectations, but then surprised friend and foe by recording times so fast that even Ferrari and Red Bull Racing are threatened. On closer inspection of their car, they also knew why, but that doesn't stop team boss Otmar Szafnauer from starting the season with confidence and pride.

The speed of Racing Point in February was no surprise to the people who had studied the pink brigade's RP20 a little better. The car looked suspiciously similar to the Mercedes. So much so, that you could speak of a copy.

Team boss Otmar Szafnauer has always contradicted these accusations and gave earlier the statement that you logically come up with a similar design if you use the same wind tunnel. The truth may lie somewhere in the middle, but at least it seems to be a certainty that it's a quick design.

Szafnauer is therefore confident that his team will be able to compete at the front this year, even after such a long period of silence. "Barcelona is usually a good gauge for your aerodynamics and that looked better than ever. I expect that we will also have that competitiveness in Austria," he said in the F1 Nation podcast of Formula1.com.

However, where other teams are already bringing updates for Austria, Racing Point will have to do most of it with the same car. "I don't think anyone has had the time to develop the car and make new parts. At least we haven't."
