Porsche driver Laurens Vanthoor has walked away from a huge crash at the Nurburgring in the build-up to the infamous 24-hour race, which takes place this weekend. His #16 Porsche 911 GT3 from Scherer Sport PHX has now been withdrawn from the event due to the damage. Belgian driver Vanthoor is a Porsche factory driver who drives in the World Endurance Championship for Porsche Penske Motorsport. The #6 Porsche he piloted alongside Kevin Estre and Matt Campbell finished last weekend's
Le Mans in second place. Just one weekend after the gruelling race in Northern France, Vanthoor prepared to lace up his racing boots for another challenge - The Nurburgring 24.
What is the Nurburgring 24?
The Nürburgring 24 Hours is a gruelling endurance race held annually at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. It features a mix of professional and amateur drivers competing in various classes, from high-performance GT3 cars to near-stock production vehicles. The 25-kilometre track combines the Nordschleife with part of the modern Grand Prix circuit, creating one of the world’s toughest racing challenges. In 2024, Top Gear reported that over 300,000 spectators flocked to the famous German circuit for the event.
