Jüri Vips seemed on the way to have a great career in motorsport. The Estonian raced in Formula 2 for the ambitious Hitech, was part of the Red Bull Junior team ánd even a reserve driver at Red Bull Racing. Until Vips used the N-word during a livestream a year ago, and everyone brushed him aside for alleged racism. It is possible that the former talent will get a second chance to revive his stalled career.

Red Bull and Hitech fired Vips

During a livestream on Twitch, Vips was playing a game of Call of Duty with Liam Lawson, among others. Suddenly, the then Formula 2 driver threw out the N-word. He was immediately pointed out by Lawson, but by then the damage had been done. Not long after, Red Bull let it be known to suspend him, only to tear up his contract a short time later. Hitech also said goodbye to Vips.

Shortly after Red Bull Racing's announcement, a message also appeared on Vips' social media, in which the driver made his 'unconditional apologies' for his remarks. "This language is completely unacceptable and does not reflect my values," the statement reads. He adds that he deeply regrets his actions. Despite this, Vips was suddenly a pariah and nobody wanted him in his team.

After a year of being forced on the sidelines, Vips may get a chance to resume his career. Several US media outlets report that an opportunity may present itself for him in IndyCar. The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team sees him as a leading candidate to drive the races in Portland and Monterey. Toby Sowery is also being mentioned for the seat.
