Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll is a Formula 1 driver for the Racing Point team alongside Sergio Perez. The Canadian raced for Williams between 2017 and 2018 but joined Racing Point after his father Lawrence Stroll bought Force India out of administration. Stroll became the youngest person to ever finish on a podium when he came third in Azerbaijan in 2017.

Throughout his young F1 career he has collected 46 points. With his father owning his new team, Racing Point, Lance Stroll has been accused of being a pay driver in Formula 1, but there is no denying the 20-year-old has plenty of talent.

Early career

Lance Stroll started karting at the age of ten, and recorded many victories in Canada and America. In his first season he won Federation de Sport Automobile du Quebec rookie of the year and in 2009 he was named driver of the year. In 2010 he signed for the Ferrari driver academy becoming the second youngest driver to be signed to an F1 team. He would spend five years in the setup.

By 2015, the Canadian was racing in Formula 3, competing in the Toyota Racing Series which he won after scoring ten podiums from 16 races. He also competed in the Euro F3 series , winning one race in a Dallara F312 Mercedes. Following a successful 2015 it was announced in November that Stroll would leave the Ferrari junior setup to become a test driver for Williams.

In 2016 Stroll continued to work with the Prema Powerteam and he contested the Euro F3 series. He won the series, taking 11 wins and finishing over 100 points clear of second place Maximilian Gunther. The same year he finished fifth at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in the process becoming the youngest highest-placed finisher in the event’s history.

Step up to F1

Having been their test driver for a year, Williams announced Stroll would become part of their lineup for the 2017 season. By doing so he became the first Canadian to compete in the pinnacle of motorsport since Jacques Villeneuve.

Initially he struggled for form, retiring three times before finally finishing a race in Russia where he recovered from spinning on lap one. At the Spanish Grand Prix he finished 16th and last of the drivers to finish followed by a brake failure in Monaco. However, things started to look up for the former Ferrari man when he finished third in an eventful Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He became the youngest rookie to finish in the podium aged just 18 and 239 days. At the Italian Grand Prix Stroll started second on the grid after the two Red Bulls took grid penalties and he broke the record for the youngest driver to start on the front row.

In his first season in F1 he scored 40 points, beating his teammate Felipe Massa.

2018 wasn’t as straightforward for the Montreal native. He scored only six points for Williams and failed to score at his home race in Canada. Mistakes were the story of his season with a crash with Brendon Hartley in Canada a standout error. On 30 November Stroll was confirmed as part of the newly formed Racing Point team under the ownership of his father, Lawrence. He replaced Esteban Ocon, who had to settle for being Mercedes reserve driver behind Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Lance Stroll was born in October 1998 in Montreal. He has a net worth of around $4 million dollars whilst his father has a net worth of $2.6 billion. Stroll is Jewish and his mother is the Belgian fashion designer Claire-Anne Callens.
