Fernando Alonso returns to the Aston Martin for the second free practice session in Hungary. The Spaniard skipped FP1 but is fit enough to compete in the second session.
An hour before the second free practice session, Aston Martin announced that Alonso will, as expected, be driving the AMR25 for the second free practice session in Budapest. The team's statement reads:
"He chose to sit out the opening practice session to limit his time in the car as he manages a muscular injury in his back."
"Having undergone further treatment this morning and medically cleared by the FIA, Fernando will be back in the AMR25 alongside Lance Stroll."

Can Alonso drive the Hungarian Grand Prix?

On Friday morning, Aston Martin announced the surprising news that Fernando Alonso would be unable to participate in the first free practice session.
The Spaniard reportedly sustained a back injury after the Belgian Grand Prix, which has not yet fully recovered. Felipe Drugovich therefore made his appearance for Aston Martin in FP1.
However, Aston Martin had no concerns about the rest of the weekend. Speaking to GPblog, among others, Mike Krack had already stated that Alonso would be racing for the rest of the weekend. However, the team wanted to keep Alonso's time in the car to a minimum.
With a back injury, Sunday's long Grand Prix will be a significant challenge for Fernando Alonso. Aston Martin has said it has taken precautions. "we have obviously made some modifications to his sitting position. We have checked some stuff yesterday (Thursday, ed.), you know, how to make him more comfortable for him. So we are quite confident there."
