Former FIA Steward Johnny Herbert believes that if Felipe Drugovich were to replace Lance Stroll at the Canadian Grand Prix, that he should go out and do exactly what Max Verstappen did; impress his team.
Stoll recently pulled out of participating in the Spanish Grand Prix due to ongoing issues with his hand and wrist. The problems were said to be linked back to 2023, when he broke both of them after a bike accident.
In a conversation with a betting site, Herbert said that Drugovich's participation would have its advantages and disadvantages.
“If he can equal or beat him, he’ll get a lot of praise. If Drugovich is around a tenth away from him, that will be very positive. Anything more than four or five tenths will not be a good first impression. That sounds unfair, but expectations are high.”
He continued, “It would also be a negative for Alonso if this young kid comes in and beats him. This is a chance for a Formula 1 career. Max Verstappen did it when he was 17, and Drugovich needs to replicate that – go out there and impress people.”

Herbert also mentioned how fans would react if Drugovich were able to impress.
“I finished fourth in my first Grand Prix, and those performances are impressive; people get excited, there's a positivity to it. But you have to keep delivering those results. It's a great opportunity for Drugovich to match Fernando Alonso.”
