Max Verstappen seemed to be counting on at least a top five spot on the starting grid again in Hungary, but nothing could be further from the truth. Engine problems meant that he saw a good starting position go up in smoke and he had to settle for P10.

The Dutchman did not hide his dissatisfaction, as Viaplay reported. While the world championship leader went out to improve on Charles Leclerc 's time, he soon realised he was missing power. As a result, he was unable to even attempt a top-three finish.

With a few minutes left on the clock, he tried everything he could to get his car going again, making contact with his car's rear wheel on several occasions. He was in contact with his team several times, but they could not solve the problem either.

When Verstappen realised there was nothing he could do but settle for P10, he reacted angrily on the board radio. " Nothing works," he concluded disappointed. His team, meanwhile, could do nothing but accept it and use the hours before the race to find out where the problem lies.
