It is no secret that the Mercedes team feel robbed by Michael Masi's decision at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Toto Wolff is now even comparing the decision to Diego Maradona's infamous goal against England.
It didn't take long for Mercedes to protest Michael Masi's decision during the final race of the season. That protest was rejected by the FIA and Lewis Hamilton's team immediately reported its intention to appeal.
In the end, Mercedes dropped the case because the team didn't want to win the world championship in court and the whole situation would have been very strange. Toto Wolff says in an interview with Bild that the FIA would then be both the defendant and the judge. This leaves the team boss with 'a feeling of helplessness'.
Wolff is so angry about the case that he compares Michael Masi's decision to 'the Hand of God' - the goal Diego Maradona scored with his hand during the 1986 World Cup quarter-final. Along with Hamilton, Wolff is still deeply disappointed. "You start to wonder if all the hard work, blood, sweat and tears are worth it."

Will Hamilton retire?

There are even rumours that Lewis Hamilton will quit as an F1 driver because of the incident. Max Verstappen doesn't believe that his great rival will quit the sport, though, as he still has a chance to take an eighth title and break Michael Schumacher's record in the process.
