"I want to continue. At least until the team wins again, I still see myself as an executive team boss,"
- Toto Wolff
Wolff still retains both roles, acting as CEO and team principal for Mercedes, the latter he does not see himself relinquishing in the foreseeable future.
"It's good for me at the moment. I want to continue. At least until the team wins again, I still see myself as an executive team boss," says Wolff in an interview.
"Especially since I'm in the privileged position that I would have to fire myself. If I am no longer team boss, then I can be CEO or chairman or move to the supervisory board, in agreement with the other shareholders."
The Austrian's comments come after he admitted he was on the verge of resigning from his position as team principal in the 2020 season. Part of his life plan, he didn't see himself involved with motrsport beyond age 50. However, in Formula One, the Mercedes boss found 'his niche.'
Now Wolff looks to the future with no indications of an imminent role change for him. "Now it's about this for me: We are 2,500 people at Mercedes. How can I properly manage the effort in such a large structure? And how can I cope with the effort so that I can also make a good contribution? And that's how I structure the team. There are no plans to change this in the short term."

Mercedes looks forward to the 2026 F1 season

The current ground effect regulations have aided Mercedes none with the team unable to put forth a title bid since 2021. However, come 2026, and the implementation of the new set of regulations that may result in an engine dominated era, Mercedes are rumoured to have their affairs in the best order among all the manufacturers.
This could bring the outfit led by Wolff back to winning ways. If it does, will he then consider 'firing himself' from his position as team principal? Vote in the poll below and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
