Max Verstappen thought he had qualified on pole for the Mexican Grand Prix until an investigation proved he didn't lift through waved yellow flags in the last lap of Q3. The Dutchman's weekend got worse when he tangled with Lewis Hamilton, and then picked up a puncture after contact with Valtteri Bottas. Jacques Villeneuve has his opinion ready.
The Canadian didn't have a good opinion of Verstappen in Mexico when talking on Sky Sports Italia. After the race, Verstappen was proclaimed Driver of the Day, but according to the 1997 world champion, that was downright ridiculous.
"Verstappen just took too many risks today. After that first incident, he returns to the track way too wildly, while Sebastian Vettel was punished for this in Canada. He just drove a very bad weekend and is also very arrogant for the camera. That does not belong to someone who still has to become world champion and I really do not understand that they choose him as Driver of the Day," Villeneuve is clear after the race.
"Alexander Albon at least takes the points and just gets good results. Verstappen's actions were just dangerous and deserved a much heavier punishment this weekend," the Canadian concludes.
