Verstappen happy with FIA openness: 'You should do this every year'

Max Verstappen is pleased that the FIA has made the investigation after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix public. In conversation with Sky Sports, the Dutchman discusses evaluating events in the sport.

After the commotion that arose around the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the FIA conducted research on how to avoid such a situation in the future. The results of that research were presented before the Bahrain GP and showed a number of changes. According to Verstappen it is good that the sport learns from the past.

''I think it's good they showed it to the world, what they have been investigating. But also for me, these kind of investigations should happen every single year because I think as an organisation, as a team, you always want to try and improve and do things better. For me it's quite a natural process you do anyway. It's quite straightforward,'' said the Red Bull Racing driver.

For Verstappen, the investigation had no greater consequences. His 2021 title will remain, but the passing of some lapped cars will no longer be allowed in 2022. In 2021, the phrasing of "any cars" in the regulations helped Verstappen, and Michael Masi's choice cost him his job as race director.
