Max Verstappen has sent his support to the 18-year-old racing driver Will Macintyre after his cancer diagnosis. "Even people I've never met before: Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli and Susie Wolff, all wishing me well."
- Will Macintyre Macintyre is being treated for brain and lung cancer at Milton Keynes hospital and wrote in a post on his Instagram that his career is on hold for now.
The British driver finished second in the British F4 Championship in 2023 after a season-long battle with New Zealander Louis Sharp.
He also took a victory in GB3 this season at Silverstone in the first round of the year before scoring two more second places.
Macintyre told BBC News that some of motorsports' biggest names have sent him support,
including four-time world champion Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli.
He said: "Even people I've never met before: Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli and Susie Wolff, all wishing me well."
"It's been unbelievable," he added from his hospital bed. "Thanks everyone so, so much."
Macintyre thanked friends for visiting him
Macintyre thanked the many visitors that have come to his bed-side to showing him their support.
"I've got as much sorted to make this as homey and as fun as possible," he continued.
"I mean we just got to make the time go by quicker and whenever I'm talking to anyone time flies by."
Macintyre suspected the symptoms began months ago, before a CT scan revealed brain swelling, prior to being diagnosed with lung and brain cancer.
Macintyre is determined to return to the track and added: "If it's going to be in two weeks' time or four years' time I don't know.
"I don't know when I'll be back but I will be back... I love it too much.
"I'll be back to winning at some stage, that's for sure."
