Jacques Villeneuve has urged Yuki Tsunoda to be grateful for the career he has enjoyed in Formula 1, following the recent driver reshuffle announced by Red Bull Racing. “Tsunoda should be happy and thankful that he’s had such a long and fruitful career.”
- Jacques Villeneuve The 1997 World Champion, speaking in an interview with a gambling site, stated how the decision by Red Bull Racing was largely anticipated by many, including Tsunoda.
“We all knew that months ago. It’s not an announcement. [Liam] Lawson was the last question mark; they were just waiting,” he began.
“Tsunoda knew it as well; you could see it in his demeanour. Even Honda wasn’t really super positive about it; you could tell the message had already been passed,” Villeneuve added.

The 54-year-old, however, stressed the need for the Japanese driver to be proud of the career he has had so far in Formula 1. Villeneuve also concluded by stating that Tsunoda could still consider racing in other series.
“Tsunoda should be happy and thankful that he’s had such a long and fruitful career in the first place. He got his chance, and it didn’t work out. But he has made a big name for himself.”
“He still has a long future in racing, and he will continue to earn a lot of money racing. He may go back to race in Japan. He is a star there now, and normally that lasts forever. So he has made his name; he is fine," he concluded.
Earlier,
Red Bull Racing announced Tsunoda would be replaced by Isack Hadjar for the 2026 season, with the Japanese driver continuing with the team in the role of a reserve driver.
