After Ross Brawn, Pat Symonds has also commented positively on Mercedes' W13. Symonds also did not see this concept coming and understands that Mercedes' rivals are taking a moment to dive into the regulations.
Mercedes was in the spotlight on Thursday with the new W13. With a lot of updates, the German racing team got a lot of attention but the competition also looked at it with suspicion. Ferrari and Red Bull expressed their doubts about whether the new car is in accordance with the regulations. However, the FIA approved it in the first instance.

Mercedes makes impression

''It's not one (interpretation) I expected to see and I'm impressed how they're getting the air through to cool the car. They obviously are, and it's got their rivals going back through the rule book with the red pencil to see what they've done. I guess it was more radical than we thought,'' the Formula One technical man and Brawn's right-hand man told Sky Sports.
According to Symonds, Mercedes' new car mainly shows that the regulations are not as strict after all as was thought beforehand. It was expected beforehand that all the cars would look alike, but that is not the case yet.
