Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft has torn into 'a bit desperate' Red Bull’s double protest in Canada, suggesting there may be a deeper motive behind the team’s actions.
Despite being deep into the week leading up to the Austrian Grand Prix, there is still significant buzz in Formula 1 about last week’s incident in Canada between George Russell and Max Verstappen.
The reference is to the safety car incident that prompted Red Bull to file two protests against George Russell—both of which were dismissed by the stewards as insufficient grounds to impose a penalty on the Mercedes driver.

Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft, who attended the premiere of the new Formula 1 film in London on Monday evening, shared his thoughts on Red Bull Racing’s post-race protest with Sky Sports.

Red Bull's protest was 'a bit desperate'

'I must say, I found Red Bull Racing's protest to be a bit desperate'', Croft spoke bluntly.
''I actually never thought for a second that they would achieve anything with it. I heard a story about what they said to the stewards, but cannot say what. I must admit, it did make me laugh. These kinds of things happen in the heat of battle.''
'This protest just shows that Red Bull is not at all in line with Max's ambitions this season. As a result, we ended up at the stewards, after George Russell managed to secure a magnificent victory.''
With Red Bull’s protest dismissed, George Russell was able to celebrate his first win of the season, while Verstappen still managed to gain important points against the two McLaren drivers in his pursuit of a fifth title.
