Having obtained the FIA Super Licence at just 17 years old, Arvid Lindblad spoke about the possibility of driving for Red Bull in Formula 1 in the near future and revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes detail about it. With Max Verstappen still at serious risk of a one-race ban following the events in Barcelona with George Russell, Red Bull has decided to take further precautions by requesting a waiver from the FIA to grant Arvid Lindblad a super licence, even though he has not yet reached the age of majority.
''After considering the information presented in support of this request, the World Council found that the driver has recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single‑seater formula car competition and therefore approved the request'', the governing body shared after the latest WMSC held in Macau last week.
''I'm very sort of thankful and very proud to be awarded the superlicense and to have the opportunity to participate in Formula 1 sessions. Whether whether that will happen or not, I don't know'', the young British driver told media, including GPblog, when asked to comment on his freshly-obtained superlicense.
So, will we see Lindblad in
F1 with Red Bull anytime soon should
Verstappen really get a race ban?
Red Bull asked Lindblad's exemption in February
''I need to talk to Red Bull about that, but no, definitely very happy to be able to do it'', he replied. ''I don't know you'll have to talk to them. I haven't been involved in those conversations''.
Lindblad eventually revealed that Red Bull had already requested the waiver several months ago: ''The super license was requested in February. So I think it's much more of a coincidence. It's kind of been approved at a time when Max is a bit on the edge with the points. But I don't know what the plan would be if something were to happen''.
