Force India's Otmar Szafnauer has revealed that Liberty Media is planning to extend the Formula 1-calendar with two extra races and make it a grand total of 23 races, Joe Saward reported.
The amount already increased to 21 this season, but Liberty Media clearly aren't quite done extending the calendar just yet. The Strategy Group Meeting, which was held on Thursday, didn't get much information out into the public, but the extension of the calendar is one of the first big reveals.
According to Saward, not much will change in terms of the European venues, as he tweeted that "Europe will remain much the same". The extra three races, one of which will very likely be in Miami, will be outside of Europe.
You might think; why three extra races? Aren't there 21 already?
Yes, you're right. But the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim will no longer be part of the schedule from next season onwards, which means that the grand total of races, as it stands, will drop down to twenty. Adding Miami would make it 21 again, but that still leaves two empty slots. Who will it be?
