Nico Hulkenberg is happy to be back in Formula 1 next season. The German left Renault in 2019 and decided to take it easy for a few years, but now has plenty of energy to get back to work.
As a reserve driver, Hulkenberg was still active in the motorsport class in recent years, but otherwise had a life in the lee. He has not regretted it for a moment, he reveals to The Race. "It was good for me to have time away to digest, to reflect on some things," Hulkenberg said.

Hulkenberg relieved about F1 return

This season, Haas F1 contacted him. The American formation was keen to recruit him as Mick Schumacher's replacement, after which the two parties started talks. Prior to the talks, however, Hulkenberg had already made up his mind that he wanted to return to Formula 1.
"Sometimes it’s difficult when you have to watch," the driver stated about last season. "This year I think watching a little harder, especially when you analyse, and you see, and you think you can do better in places." On Tuesday, Hulkenberg drove a Formula 1 test for Haas in Abu Dhabi.
