Horner feels budget cap increase is not enough, but: "It's a compromise"

The FIA and Formula One teams agreed an increase in the budget ceiling on Friday morning in Austria. According to Christian Horner, however, it is so small that it will not help the teams given their costs over the whole season.

At the F1 Commission meeting, it was decided to increase the original cost cap by 3.1%. This inflation adjustment is not nearly enough for the larger teams, Horner said in conversation with Autosport.com. Nevertheless, he also acknowledges that it is a compromise for everyone and that not everyone can be completely satisfied.

The Red Bull Racing team boss believes the increase is disproportionate to the actual inflation that is occurring today. Nevertheless, he is satisfied with the decision: "It's not enough for us, and it's too much for the little ones. So it's a compromise," Horner acknowledges.

The teams first worked with a budget ceiling of $140 million, plus $1.2 million for the 22nd race. A 3.1% increase amounts to some $4.3 million, so the teams now know that the final limit for this season is $145.5 million.
