After the fourth and final meeting of the Formula 1 Commission in 2025, the FIA has announced the talking points and resolutions that governed the discussion. The meeting was presided by FIA single-seater Director Nikolas Tombaziz and FOM president and CEO Stefano Domenicali earlier in the day in the FIA's offices in London.
Among the key talking points, adjustments to the Technical, Sporting, Financial and Operational regulations wer agreed to be submitted to the World Motor Sport Council on December 10. What the adjustments were is not specified in the overview.
The decision to introduce mandatory two pit stops druing races, tyre specifications, tyre-life limits and the use of three different compounds during the races were also brought to the table. No conclusions have yet been made, save for picking up the discussions again throughout the 2026 season.
Recent evidence of the implementation of this measure can be found in this season's edition of the Monaco Grand Prix.
F1 Commission discusses Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions (ATR)
During the meeting,
F1 teams, the FIA and F1 also addressed the parameters that currently govern the Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions, stating that changes
"are being developed to bring Formula 1 into line with contemporary processing and simulation technology while mindful of cost considerations." Car liveries and drivers' numbers were also a talking point with all parties agreeing that "a minimum of 55% of surface area (when viewed from the side and above) must be covered by painted or stickered liveries as opposed to bare carbon fibre surfaces," arguing that the goal of the measure "is to increase visual differentiation between cars," which was made difficult after teams refrained from adding paint to certain sections of their cars in a bid to save every bit of weight possible.
Drivers' numbers and Cooling system addressed
The numbers drivers are usually identified with, i.e., Lewis Hamilton's 44, Lando Norris' 4, George Russell's 63, were permitted to introduce proposals to change their chosen number during their F1 tenure.
The Driver Colling System, an obligatory measure introduced to aid drivers when racing in extremely hot weather conditions, was also discussed with a view on the upcoming 2026 season.
"Re-designs to the current DCS (Drivers Colling System, ed.), and cooling garments were proposed along with an increased weight allowance for use of the DCS. Further driver feedback will be sought in parallel with the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA)," the announcement read.
