Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was highly impressed by the spectacle produced during the Miami Grand Prix, which once again saw Kimi Antonelli emerge victorious.
The recent tweaks to the 2026 regulations helped produce far more compelling and natural racing compared to the opening three rounds of the season, which had often been criticised for feeling overly artificial. Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix featured plenty of overtaking, with many moves completed under braking rather than simply being dictated by large speed differences caused by battery deployment and energy management.
The success of the Miami Grand Prix also gave Stefano Domenicali the opportunity to praise the quality of the racing on display, with the Formula 1 CEO speaking positively about the event during an interview with Sky Sport.
“In a very particular weekend because of what unfortunately happened with the passing of Alex Zanardi, it was a truly wonderful Grand Prix. People here in America are beginning to understand what Formula 1 is all about. There is an interest that shows the scale of our sport, which is a sport that is always looking ahead. I’m very happy about that.”
The Italian also stressed how Formula 1 continues to look ahead and evolve despite criticism surrounding the new regulations earlier in the season: “We are resilient. At the beginning, everyone talks, but in the end there is always someone who has to draw the conclusions.”

He finally added: “I’m proud, because everyone understands that at the heart of it all there is obviously the sporting competition, the battle between drivers, teams and engineers, but there is also a whole other dimension that people experience in a completely different way.”
“Of course, the regulations are what they are and there is constant evolution, but that has always been part of Formula 1. Together with all the parties involved in shaping the regulations, we try to take into account changing trends and developments, but right now we are focused on the fact that the races are truly exciting. We’ll see what happens at the next Grand Prix in Canada and that is now our focus, but I’m happy with the moment we are currently experiencing.”

Toto Wolff tells detractors to 'hide' after exciting Miami GP

Speaking to GPblog among other media outlets after the race, the Austrian was also full of praise for the Miami Grand Prix, describing the event as a perfect showcase for Formula 1 and insisting the on-track action left little room for criticism. While acknowledging that the Miami circuit is less demanding from an energy management perspective compared to other venues on the calendar, he still felt the race delivered strong entertainment throughout.

The Austrian also pointed to the constantly shifting competitive picture at the front of the field, highlighting McLaren’s clear step forward in performance while noting Red Bull’s impressive outright pace in qualifying. However, he suggested the reigning world champions were ultimately hurt by the way the race unfolded strategically on Sunday.
Despite remaining in the fight at the front, he admitted the race had been far from straightforward and stressed the importance of continuing development work over the coming rounds. With the championship increasingly turning into an aggressive upgrade battle between the leading teams, attention is already beginning to shift towards Montreal and the impact future updates could have on the pecking order.
