The main purpose of the renewed regulations that come into force in 2022 is to make Formula 1 more competitive. It should also give smaller teams the chance to move further forward. For Alfa Romeo, the measure seems to be working: according to team boss Frederic Vasseur, the team is close to its budget cap for the coming season.
The Swiss racing stable, who finished ninth in the Constructors' Championship in 2021, with a total of 13 points, hopes to become more competitive through the new regulations. According to Vasseur, the team is well on its way, as it will not be far from the budget cap in 2022.

The team boss therefore sees the budget cap and the new regulations as a "huge opportunity," as he explains to Motorsport-Total.com. Apart from ongoing negotiations with a number of sponsors, Vasseur expects more opportunities in the coming season. With the experienced Valtteri Bottas and young talent Guanyu Zhou he hopes to develop the team in the coming years.
The budget cap was already drastically reduced in 2021, from a planned total of $175 million to $145 million. In 2022, the limit drops further to $140 million. In 2023, another $5 million will be taken off.
