Formula 1 's popularity has increased in recent years. According to Ross Brawn, this is largely due to the approach of Liberty Media, which has held the commercial reins since 2017.
The open approach through social media channels and the success of the Netflix series Drive to Survive has attracted a younger audience to the sport and that has helped F1 to get a boost in popularity. As far as Brawn is concerned, the current state of the sport can be attributed to Liberty Media's approach.

Brawn happy with current state of F1

According to F1's former director of motorsport, the new owners have done a great job of looking at how the sport could be taken forward and investing in it. He stresses that this is something previous owners (read: Bernie Ecclestone) failed to do. "If you look back, I can’t think of many owners that put that sort of investment into the sport," Brawn said in conversation with Motorsport.com.
The 68-year-old Briton added that the investments were "substantial" but that this approach has clearly paid off. According to Brawn, the king class of motorsport is in very good shape given the huge interest, something that can be partly attributed to the new, more diverse audience the sport has attracted.
