Fernando Alonso is back in Formula 1 this season, after a two-year absence. The 40-year old Spaniard has a rich history behind him and can still remember the period of his battle with Michael Schumacher.
Alonso competed for the world championship for years against Schumacher who was the biggest name in Formula One at the time. "Michael is a legend in the sport. I learned so much from him in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. And then, in 2005 and 2006, we were fighting side by side and wheel to wheel with him," Alonso reflected in conversation with Sky.
The current Alpine driver knows that Schumacher deserves a special place in the sport. "You have to respect Michael in a different way than any other driver. Those moments, shaking hands and things like that, came as a relief. We fought hard against each other on the track, but there's still a human being under that red helmet."

Alonso in world championship

The experienced driver is currently 11th in the world championship, one point behind his teammate Esteban Ocon. In Hungary, Alonso finished in fourth, bringing in 12 points for his team.
