Max Verstappen holds many records in Formula 1, but there are still some that the Dutchman can take away from other (former) drivers. The most laps in the lead in an F1 season is one of those, but in 2021 Verstappen will no longer be able to take that record away.

Sebastian Vettel led 739 laps in 2011. The season consisted of nineteen Grands Prix with a total of 1,133 laps. The 2021 season consists of 22 Grands Prix, so Verstappen has three more Sundays (on a whole season) to take the record away from Vettel. However, that will not happen this year.

With the Grands Prix of Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi still to come, there are still 105 laps to be completed this year. Verstappen currently leads 620 laps, so he could move up to a maximum of 735 laps if he were to lead the final two GPs of the year from start to finish.

Two spot still possible for Verstappen

A place in the top three of this record is still possible. Nigel Mansell currently holds the second place with 692. He set that record in 1992. P3 is again occupied by Sebastian Vettel with 684 laps in the lead in 2013.
