Not only do the FIA and Formula 1 have new cars planned for 2022, but the race weekend will also look a little different. Teams now have to present their cars and updates to the media and the public.

Show and Tell

In 2022 all Formula 1 teams will start the season with a new car. The aerodynamic regulations are completely different and so the cars will look completely different too. The FIA and F1 also want to ensure that there is more openness about the cars. Fans should be able to understand it better.

In order to achieve this, Formula 1 has, according to Auto, Motor und Sport decided that from 2022 teams will have to present the car for that weekend on Friday morning. After the technical inspection, the car has to be placed in front of the garage for the media and fans to see. Show and Tell' is the name of this new feature, where an engineer will also give an explanation about the car.

No qualifying car

Of course, the engineer in question will not give away all the details about the car, but it should make for more openness. F1 wanted to set Parc Fermé for the first free practice so that the car shown would also be the car for the race and qualifying, but this was not accepted by the teams. They would not be able to test updates during a practice session.

The first and second free practice will be moved by this new feature. Where the first free practice normally is held in the morning (local time), this will now be at 13:00. The afternoon practice will then be held at 16:00. In both cases, the session will last one hour.
