Max Verstappen is favourite for pole position for the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, but will Mercedes have anything to say about that? On his home circuit, Sergio Perez will also be pushing hard in qualifying to give the home fans something to cheer about.

Red Bull Racing's driver not only faces competition from Mercedes, but Sergio Perez will also be aiming to compete in Mexico. It's the first time Perez has driven a competitive car in his home country and he has already expressed his desire to win.

Verstappen made the best impression on Friday by finishing the second free practice session in first place. The result caused a headache for the German racing team, as they look to close the gap to their rivals.

Hamilton has the big task this weekend to stay close to Verstappen. The Briton is currently 12 points behind Verstappen in the world championship. After Mexico, the Formula 1 season is left with just four races, which means that the end of the title fight is near and any points are now crucial.

So far in 2021

The 2021 Formula 1 season is one that will feature as a stand-alone chapter in the sport's history book. Perhaps the best season since the turn of the century, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are battling hard for the title. The Dutchman currently has a 12 point lead over the Brit who has seen it all before. Last time out, the Red Bull driver held off a charging Hamilton in the final stages of the United States Grand Prix.

Red Bull arrive at the Mexico circuit as favourites to win. That isn't unusual because Mercedes traditionally struggle here anyway, but this year Red Bull's car has the ability to work well on any track. They've proved that around the world in 2021.
