It is clear that Lewis Hamilton made a good choice to drive for Mercedes. Together they have won the constructors' championship seven times. Former Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali admits that the Italians wanted to lure Hamilton to their team.

Recently, Hamilton himself questioned why he never ended up at Ferrari. According to the seven-time world champion, it was not to be. Ferrari itself has always been reluctant to make an offer for the British driver.

In an interview with Sky Sports Domenicali now admits that there was indeed interest in Hamilton coming to Ferrari. Domenicali was the boss of the Italian team from 2008 to 2014 and is now the business director of Formula 1.

Ferrari thought of Hamilton as an option

During the interview, the F1 boss is asked if he thought about signing Hamilton when he was in charge there. "To be honest, yes. This is true, we discussed that", he confesses.

It was about a possible switch after Hamilton's time at McLaren came to an end in 2012, but the Briton was persuaded by Niki Lauda to come to Mercedes. "Today, that period has passed away. There is a movie called Sliding Doors. There are moments when you get in an elevator, you stay on the floor. That was the situation that Lewis lived at that specific time of his life, you cannot blame his choice", Domenicali said.
