Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Mick Schumacher, Nico Rosberg, Jacques Villeneuve, Damon Hill. They all have one thing in common: a racing father. So it is no exception that sons follow in their father's footsteps. The next in line could well be Sebastian Montoya, son of seven-time Grand Prix winner Juan Pablo.

German and Italian Formula 4

Sebastian is sixteen years old and is racing in German and Italian Formula 4 this season. In Germany, he is second in the standings, in Italy third. "It's going great," a proud father let us know to Motorsport.com. In both classifications, Oliver Bearman (Van Amersfoort Racing) is leading. "But I'm pushing Sebastian to not worry about anything and just focus on his own work. If we do a good job, it will come our way. I know it will. So far, he's been right there every weekend."

Enormously fast and lots of talent

Montoya is closely involved in Sebastian's racing career, but not comparable to the relationship between Jos Verstappen and Max. Again, the Colombian doesn't want to interfere too much with his son. "I try to be at as many races as possible. Sometimes that is not easy, because some races coincide with my own. But although I try to be there for him a lot, I also think it's important that he can manage without me and solve problems without me. If he needs something from me, then, of course, I'm there for him. But in the end, he is the one who has to do it. But he's tremendously fast and very talented."

So Sebastian Montoya's career is going well and there are even said to be talks with Formula 1 teams for a place in one training programme. However, Montoya does not want to get too involved with that at the moment. "We are focusing on what we are doing now. If an opportunity comes along it will be good, but for now, it's not our priority. Sebastian has a championship to drive."

Racing against Verstappen

Should Sebastian Montoya make it to Formula 1 in the coming years, he might just end up competing against Verstappen. "That would be cool! You never know. We'll see!", said Montoya who is a big fan of the Dutchman. He even sees comparisons between Sebastian and Max: "They are very similar. They are both real racers. They want to overtake people, they don't sit around waiting. And they do whatever it takes to get the job done."
