After Michael, Ralf and now Mick Schumacher, maybe in the future there will be a fourth Schumacher to add to this list. David, the son of Ralf, has scored his first victory in Formula 3 and for now that tastes like more.

The Schumacher family has had a big part in Formula 1 over the past 30 years. Michael Schumacher won seven world titles and is considered one of the best drivers of all time, but brother Ralf also managed to win six races in F1. Now that Mick has made his F1 debut this season, we are not rid of the Schumacher family just yet.

Schumacher number four

David Schumacher at 19 is currently competing in Formula 3 for the Trident team, and at the Red Bull Ring he won his first race this season. ''My goal is to get to Formula 1. When you have invested so much, there can be no other goal. The pressure was always there, but the win did provide some relief. I knew what I could do, but I drive more relaxed now'', said Schumacher to the AvD Motor und Sport Magazin.

Before his victory Schumacher had not scored a single point, but the race weekend after his victory in Austria, he finished in the points during all three races in Hungary, and the German has moved up to 12th in the standings. At Trident, he has also found a team that is winning more races. Teammates Jack Doohan and Clement Novalak are a good yardstick for Schumacher in this respect. They are in second and sixth place in the standings.

Disappointing results

Ralf Schumacher had underestimated the role of the team. In 2020, he brought his son to Charouz in Formula 3, but that was less of a success. ''I underestimated that. That first team was not able to create the right conditions, even though David was the fastest at the time. That was my mistake'', says Ralf.

Still, we shouldn't make things better than they are. David's teammates at Charouz have all scored far more points than him, and even in his second year in F3, he is still only 12th. Victory is of course great, but it is not a result that can link him to F1 yet.
