Pierre Gasly finished a fine fifth in Hungary, but given the hectic start to the race there might have been a lot more on offer for the Frenchman. He believes that with a little more luck he would have been on the podium at the Hungaroring.

More luck for the other

Gasly had qualified in fifth, but because the AlphaTauri driver was also involved in the chaos caused by Valtteri Bottas at the start, he was unable to take advantage of the frenzy like Esteban Ocon did. "I don't know what to say, except that Bottas screwed up and pretty much bowled the first six cars out of the race," the Frenchman told Motorsport.com. "Fortunately, we didn't get any damage out of it, like Max [Verstappen], Lando [Norris] or Sergio [Perez]".

For almost all drivers who were on the starting grid around Gasly, the race was already over on the first lap, while Verstappen and Hamilton fell back. Ocon and Vettel, who started eighth and tenth respectively, were able to take full advantage. "Some were a bit more lucky than others, but they [Alpine, Ocon] drove a very good race and managed to keep the lead throughout the race. You have to be there when the opportunities present themselves."

A few more crazy races

"When I look at the podium it's disappointing because I think we could have got more out of it if we had been a bit more lucky at the start," continued Gasly who is already focusing on the races after the summer break. "I'm expecting some crazy races. We are seeing a very intense battle at the top of the championship, crazy conditions, and there will still be opportunities. That's what we have to focus on."
