Mercedes and Red Bull get the blame: 'We feel the collateral damage'

Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are battling it out behind the scenes as well as on the track this season. The German team urged the FIA to adopt new regulations for the rear wing, which had an effect on the cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez. But, the Austrians were not the only team to suffer from this however.

Marcin Budkowski is certainly not happy with the way both top teams are competing. Alpine has had to modify its rear wing due to the new regulations, which cost a lot of money for the team.

"We are still figuring out some adjustments to the rear wings after the FIA's famous technical directive, which we are quite bitter about, to be honest," the Alpine team boss told Motorsport.com. "It has cost us a huge amount of effort and money, because we are talking about different rear wings with multiple variations of downforce that all have to be adapted."

Budkowski blames the new regulations on Red Bull and Mercedes. "We feel a bit like the collateral damage of the teams up front fighting for the title trying to undercut each other by throwing a banana peel at each other, looking for problems with the other's car."
