More than a third of the qualifying sessions of this season have been done. With many teams, a clear difference between the first and second-place drivers is starting to emerge. At some teams, it remains exciting. Below is an overview of the qualifying duels until now.

The first team where it is more exciting than you would think in qualifying is Mercedes. Thanks to Lewis Hamilton's botched last lap, Valtteri Bottas is within striking distance again. Bottas is almost out of contention for the championship, but he cannot be said to be slow.

Old hands Vettel, Alonso and Ricciardo struggling

Two other teams where things remain exciting are Aston Martin and Alpine, where champions of the past are struggling to stay ahead of their young teammates. Sebastian Vettel was on a good run, but had to concede to Lance Stroll today.

The biggest disappointment of the day however was without a doubt Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian is not able to find his rhythm at McLaren and is increasingly being overtaken by Lando Norris. Norris is a good driver, but we all know Ricciardo can do better than this.
