Sergio Perez has a win and a third place behind his name for this Formula One season and seems increasingly comfortable at Red Bull Racing. Will Buxton and Lawrence Barretto discuss the Mexican's options.

The man next to Verstappen

Since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing has struggled to find the right driver alongside Max Verstappen. Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon were both deemed too light, but Perez now seems to be the ideal man. The Mexican needed some time to adjust, but won in Azerbaijan and played a crucial role for Verstappen in France.

''He drove a strong French Grand Prix and did exactly what Red Bull wanted from him. He was in Mercedes' pitstop window and caused all sorts of problems. He eventually took the podium and beat Valtteri Bottas,'' says Barretto in the Weekend Warm-Up of Formula1.com.

Title fight for Perez

''This is what Red Bull has needed for so long. A driver who can not only deliver, take that win, but be there as a 'spoiler' to ruin Mercedes' strategic options. However, he is also in the title fight. If Hamilton has a bad weekend and Sergio wins, he's just right there with them,'' Buxton adds.

''That's what makes it so interesting for Perez. If there is more to it than this, what can he achieve. Maybe a battle for the title is really possible,'' Barretto wonders.
