Thanks to his victory on Sunday in the IndyCar Series Rinus van Kalmthout has moved up a number of places in the championship. The Dutchman is currently in sixth place with 135 points. As a result, 'Veekay' can still dream of the title in what is only his second season in the American class.

The gap to championship leader Scott Dixon is 'only' 41 points. Where during a normal race in the IndyCar 50 points are awarded for a victory, in two weeks time the number of points awarded will be 100. Then the Indy500 is on the program at Indianapolis and double points are awarded for all positions.

Fierce competition Veekay

The number two will receive 80 points and the number three will receive 70 points. It's the perfect opportunity for Van Kalmthout to crawl even closer to that coveted first place. The competition however is fierce with experienced drivers such as Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud.

With ten races to go the 20-year old driver still has everything in his own hands with several IndyCar weekends still to go. It is important to score good points every weekend, because the championship in the United States is all about constant performance. The final race takes place at Long Beach, on September 26.
