Marcin Budkowski will succeed Cyril Abiteboul when Renault changes its name to Alpine F1 Team. He hopes to lead the team to more podiums in 2021 before the major rule changes come in 2022.

Abiteboul was involved with the team from 2014 to 2020 but had to make way for Budkowski in 2021. For Budkowski, the important task is to help the team take another step forward so that in 2021 it can once again fight for third place among the constructors.

“I think it’s been a challenging year for everyone and F1-teams are no exception. So we had to adapt and innovate, but that's what we do best. F1-teams are very agile organisations and they can react very well to these kinds of situations. So we had to adapt to working from home and the social distancing measures, which makes running a factory much more complicated," he said in the Alpine Launch video.

"We had to innovate. The last two weeks for example. To assemble the car we had to set up a biosphere, so the race team could put it together in safe conditions. From a personal point of view, managing a team in these conditions has been an incredible experience as well.”
