Franz Tost: 'This duo is our best opportunity to achieve goals'

AlphaTauri welcomes a new driver this year. The young Japanese Yuki Tsunoda will be the second driver at the Italian stable. Pierre Gasly completes the team. With that, AlphaTauri chooses a combination that fits its philosophy.

It is not surprising that AlphaTauri goes for this combination. Team boss Franz Tost let it be known on the Italian brand's official website that it fits the thought. "The decision to go for Pierre and Yuki in 2021 was made because the philosophy of Scuderia AlphaTauri is still to give talented young drivers from the Red Bull Junior Programme the chance to make the step to F1 and to train them. That's why Yuki now gets his chance."

Important role for Gasly

So Tost seems to be very happy with the creation of his team. He sees an important role for Gasly. "With Pierre at Yuki's side, we have an experienced driver who can help our Japanese rookie develop faster, but at the same time we can aim for good results. I think this duo is the best possible scenario to achieve both our goals and I am also confident that this will be a success."

He bases this on the results Gasly achieved last year, among others. The Frenchman secured his first victory last year in the crazy race at the Monza circuit.
