Mick Schumacher might want to forget today as soon as possible. The young German was supposed to make his official debut in Formula 1 during the first free practice session of the Eifel GP, but the bad weather conditions meant that there was no racing at all.

The weather above the Nürburgring has been bad all day. Large downpours and thick fog threw a spanner in the works for the teams and the drivers. Both of the practice sessions scheduled for today were cancelled because the medical helicopter could not fly safely due to the fog.

Wet conditions were to be expected

Despite the disappointment, Michael Schumacher's son admitted he wasn't surprised by the washout. "It is certainly a pity that we could not drive. We had seen the weather reports beforehand and we knew this could happen. Of course at this time of year you have no guarantee that it will stay dry here," he told Motorsport.com.

However, Schumacher was able to take some positives on this disappointing day. "In the end, the preparation has been very valuable to me. There have been many meetings and I have gained a lot of knowledge over the past few days. So it has been useful. This weekend I will also stay with the team to attend all the meetings. Then I will also be able to see how the real F1 drivers go through all the procedures. That will be very important for me, I am looking forward to that."
