Hoping for Ricciardo's departure: ''That could be my chance''

Daniel Ricciardo may hope for a move to Ferrari or McLaren at the end of 2020, but he is not the only one. Christian Lundgaard could benefit a lot from the changeover of the Australian.

The program of Renault

Renault's training programme suffered a major blow in 2019 with the death of Anthoine Hubert, who was certainly close to a Formula 1 seat. However, Renault has more talents in the training programme, which in time it would like to pass on to the first team in Formula 1.

However, with the goal of competing at the top, this is not easy. While the top teams with AlphaTauri, Williams and Alfa Romeo each have a place available for young talent to get used to, this does not apply to Renault. The talents from this training must therefore hope for a chance with the first team.

Departure of Ricciardo

''It's not in my hands at the moment, and maybe it's not in Renault's hands either. I think the team will see what Ricciardo will do and if he leaves that might be my chance. If you ask me I am ready for Formula 1. After 2020 I have one year of Formula 2 and Renault expects me to be ready when the chance arises. Luckily I learn fast'', says Lundgaard to the Danish BT.

It remains to be seen whether Lundgaard will get the chance. The Dane is not yet able to deliver a great CV with a championship in Spanish Formula 4 and a sixth place in the 2019 Formula 3 championship. With Guanyu Zhou, Renault also has a driver who has already proven himself in Formula 2 and is looking for the world title in that class in 2020.
